Ray Davies, The Kinks, 1970

Ray Davies, photographed here by Jack Robinson on February 2, 1970, was the lead singer and songwriter for The Kinks. His lyrics are some of the most literate and witty in the history of pop music. Vogue noted “quiet, remarkably observant, Ray Davies … has a way of getting inside people’s heads, even several generations’ heads, in the Kinks album-novel Arthur. “’Snapshots’ he says ‘so they won’t forget.’”
