Malcom McDowell was photographed by Jack Robinson on October 22, 1971. Born in Leeds, McDowell had become known for his first film role in If… (1968), directed by Lindsay Anderson. The twenty-eight year old McDowell is described in a “People Are Talking About …” feature of Vogue as “his own sort of actor, with an English potato face and a manner that is charged with sly sex.” His role in A Clockwork Orange (1971) had left McDowell “a walloping new culture here” and he would go on to appear in almost 200 roles in film and on television.
