Carly Simon, American singer-songwriter, was twenty-six when Jack Robinson photographed her on July 9, 1971. It was her first magazine shoot. “The sandals were mine,” she recalled in 2006, “I remember how uncomfortable they were and how they made big dents in my legs.” Her debut album had not been long released and Simon would win the Grammy that year for Best New Artist. In the “Vogue’s Own Boutique” feature of the magazine, they describe the “tall, lean, and talented” Simon as “one of a new breed of girl singer/songwriters.”
