Michael Crichton, 1970

Author and screenwriter Michael Crichton was photographed by Jack Robinson on June 15, 1970. A “People Are Talking About …” feature in Vogue describes the twenty-seven-year-old Crichton as “rosy, curly, scrubbed, tall as a chimney” with a “mind programmed like a computer”. He had taken his medical degree at Harvard knowing he would never practice medicine. Crichton writes “novels, science fiction, thrillers, and movies.” His seventh book, The Andromeda Strain had been a best seller the previous year and the movie would be released later in 1970. Crichton’s “bouncy, outspoken chat, bloomy youth, and loose jointed energy are as misleading as an advanced nuclear device sewn into a Raggedy Andy”. The prodigious Crichton wrote over thirty books in his lifetime, fourteen of which were turned into movies, the most notable being Jurassic Park, as well as directing seven movies himself and creating the enormously popular American television show E.R.
