The Paris-born actress Dominique Sanda was briefly a Vogue model in her late teens before being cast by Robert Bresson in the leading role in Une Femme Douce (1969). It was followed by star parts in Vittorio de Sica’s The Garden of the Finzi-Continis (1970) with Helmut Berger, and The Conformist (1970), directed by Bernardo Bertolucci. Sanda was photographed by Jack Robinson on October 9, 1970 for a Vogue feature titled “The New Movie Crush”. The twenty-two-year-old Sanda is described as “silky, sulky, unforgivably vulnerable, … the newest sort of sex symbol, believable, ready for what she wants, yet remote and beautiful”.
