Cherilyn Sarkisian met Salvatore Bono in Los Angeles in 1962, and the subsequent relationship evolved into Sonny & Cher, one of the most popular husband-wife acts in popular music history. Sonny had started his career at Specialty Records and then moved on to work with Phil Spector in the early sixties. Jack Robinson photographed them for a “Vogue’s Own Boutique” feature in 1967, after the duo had already released their first hits “I Got You Babe”and “The Beat Goes On”. Sonny & Cher rebranded themselves in the 1970s, starring in a hit television variety series, but split in 1975. Cher went on to a successful career as a solo performer and actress and won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her role in Moonstruck (1987). Sonny went on to serve in the U.S. House of Representatives.
