Claude Chabrol, 1970

The French director Claude Chabrol was one of the Cahiers du Cinéma critics who became filmmakers. Chabrol’s film Le Beau Serge (1958) is considered to be the first film of the French Nouvelle Vague, a movement that revolutionized cinema in France and spread its influence internationally. He co-wrote the first serious critical examination of Hitchcock, and many of his films were intricate mysteries that derived from, and expanded, the ideas and techniques of the master. He was photographed on September 10, 1970 by Jack Robinson for a Vogue “People Are Talking About …”feature.
