Herbie Hancock, 1968

Jazz great Herbie Hancock, in a photograph taken on November 22, 1968. In a “People Are Talking About …” feature published in Vogue, the twenty-eight year old Hancock, described as “a composer of incisive lyricism and a pianist with firefly fingers” remarked that he was “unlabelled“. The former sideman for Miles Davis commented that he writes music for commercials, soundtracks for movies, as well as touring with his jazz sextet and regular shows at the Village Vanguard.
