Julie Harris, 1966

Julie Harris conquered the mediums of stage, television, and film, winning five Tony awards and a record number of nominations, three Emmy awards, one Oscar nomination, and a Grammy for a spoken word recording. She made her film debut in Fred Zinnemann’s The Member of the Wedding (1952), reprising her Broadway role, originated the role of Sally Bowles on stage in I am a Camera (1952), and starred opposite James Dean in Elia Kazan’s East of Eden (1955). When photographed by Jack Robinson on July 8, 1966, Harris was playing in the Broadway musical Skyscraper, adapted from Elmer Rice’s Dream Girl, and was on screen in Harper opposite Paul Newman and Robert Wagner.
