Country music’s Chet Atkins was a prime mover in the creation of the Nashville sound, which moved Nashville away from its hillbilly roots and more into the mainstream. A guitarist and record producer, he made his debut at the Grand Ole Opry in 1946, and his first RCA recordings in 1947. Years later, he supervised the construction of Nashville’s famous Studio B, and promoted the talents of many great artists including Jim Reeves, Waylon Jennings, Dolly Parton, Willie Nelson, Connie Smith, and The Everly Brothers. He was photographed by Jack Robinson on the stage of the Grand Ole Opry in 1957.
