Gloria Vanderbilt Family, 1972

Gloria Vanderbilt, only child of the railroad heir Reginald Claypoole Vanderbilt and a member of one of America’s richest families, had a fascinating childhood. In 1934, the ten year old Gloria was at the center of one of America’s most scandalous custody battles. Although she was raised in great privilege, she worked hard to develop her remarkable talents -- artist, socialite, actress, novelist, fashion designer, and entrepreneur. On March 30, 1972, Jack Robinson, working with color film, photographed Gloria Vanderbilt, her husband Wyatt Cooper, and their sons Carter Cooper and Anderson Cooper at their house in Southampton.
